The fiercest diva on the planet dominated 2003 with her Grammy-winning, multi-platinum solo debut, "Dangerously in Love," then continued her reign by reuniting with the Destiny's Child gals in 2005. And didn't she JUST have a smash with "Check On It" earlier this year? Actually, she hasn't taken much of a break since Destiny's Child came on the scene in 1997. Give us a chance to miss you, B. Not likely. Just in time for her 25th birthday, Jay-Z's main squeeze pops out "B'Day," her second solo release, comprised of ten songs and a bonus track. Featuring overused hitmakers like The Neptunes, Swizz Beatz, Rich Harrison and Rodney Jerkins, to name a few, the album threatens to be a slick but superficial attempt to get Beyonce yet another hit....

10th annual festival wraps up in Canso with lots of music blowin

CANSO The focus stayed on ballads and balladeers at the closing night of the 10th annual Stan Rogers Folk Festival in Canso on Sunday. Considering the event is named after one of this country’s greatest tunesmiths, it’s hard to argue that this celebratory edition should end any other way, with performers from one end of Canada to the other. Stanfest’s ongoing commitment to showcasing up-and-coming singer-songwriters continued with Sunday’s song swap featuring a quartet of engaging female performers. B.C.’s Hayley Sales might have had to cope with a weekend with no luggage thanks to her airline, but she had no lack of support from her fellow musicians. Her dreamily romantic Kiss You When It Rains received onstage support from bluesman Guy Davis and member of the Danish folk group ZAR to enhance its sense of longing....

What could be a long four-day Fourth of July holiday weekend kicks off today for many people at lakes and campgrounds in the Marshall area. For many area residents and visitors the weekend should feature water sports, enjoying the outdoors, patriot parades – and fireworks at some celebrations. |Saturday| Karnack kicks things off today with their "Fourth of July Celebration" at 10:30 a.m. at the Karnack Fire Department/Karnack Community Center. There will be food, fellowship and fun for all at this event, which is a fund-raiser for and hosted by the Karnack Volunteer Fire Department, organizers said. Timpson will be hosting a variety of activities today as the community celebrates "Days Gone By." Organizers said there will be activities for both children and adults....
